Material Glossary
Solid Wood
Solid wood refers to lumber that has been milled directly from trees. These sections are solid with wood fibres running throught the length of the sections. Wood is fished by either polishing the surface or painting it.
Engineered Wood Board
Engineered wood is made by using a mechanical hot press to compress wood fibers to achieve higher density. This increased density enhances the strength and stiffness of the wood by a proportional amount.
Medium Density Fibreboard
MDF wood is essentially sawdust and glue that have been fused together with pressure and heat. These boards have a high surface finish which is ideal for painting.
Plywood
Plywood is a material manufactured from thin layers or "plies" of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. We use only 1st marine plywood in our products.
Laminate
PVC laminates are multi-layered laminate sheets based on Poly Vinyl Chloride, made by compressing paper and plastic resins under high pressure and temperature. They are used as a decorative layer on top of raw surfaces such as plywood. Our products are made using 1mm thick laminate.
Veneer
Veneer is essentially a thin slice of wood which is manufactured in a sheet format. This product is used for finishing of raw plywood.
This is a natural product hence the feel and finish of the product is exactly like solid wood.
Mild Steel
Mild steel is a low carbon steel which gives excellent strength and a high finish in furniture. MS sections are powder coated or spray painted to acheive the desired finish.
Powder Coating
Powder coating is a dry finishing process which is more resistant to chipping, scratching, and other wear because of the thermal bonding it undergoes during curing, and because it can be applied in much thicker layers. In addition to its physical toughness, powder coating provides superior color retention. It is mainly used to coat metals.
Geode Art
Inspired by the natural geodes, beautiful geodes can be created with resin, deco stones, glitter and of course real crystals and minerals.
